American Canyon Library

The American Canyon Library project was a wonderful opportunity to refresh a beloved community hub while honoring its established aesthetic. Over time, the library’s floors and existing furniture had become outdated and worn, prompting a need for a modern update. Working closely with the library director and branch manager, we set out to breathe new life into the facility. Our primary goal was to create a comfortable, welcoming lounge area where families and individuals could read, study, and connect, all while ensuring the space remained highly functional for daily public use.

We faced a unique challenge in navigating the limited space created by the library’s existing book collections and shelving. To make the most of the tight footprint, we designed custom banquette seating that maximized capacity without crowding the aisles. We also wanted to celebrate the building’s character, specifically a pre-existing rainbow feature wall that the community loved. By retaining this vibrant focal point, we intentionally selected durable new furniture and flooring that perfectly complemented the colorful design, making the entire update feel cohesive and purposeful.

To finalize the transformation, we updated the overall color palette, shifting from an older orange and green scheme to a fresh, modern mix of blue and a vibrant new shade of orange. This subtle but impactful change gave the library a much more inviting and contemporary look. By combining highly durable materials with thoughtful, community-focused design, we helped create a beautiful, refreshed environment that will serve the people of American Canyon for many years to come.

"Working with Facilities by Design was great. They kept us on task and on schedule, really listened to our questions and concerns and brought us ideas that helped us create a new space for our American Canyon patrons that felt both modern and lasting."

- Anthony Halstead, Director of Library Services
