FBD Takes New Designer on a San Francisco Showroom Tour
We’re excited to welcome Christin Kimball to our growing family. Together with Ashley, we now have two designers. We’re growing in more ways than one as both Ashley and Christin have 20-month-old toddlers, and Ashley has another baby on the way. Our showroom tours were productive, but there is more to explore. We plan on returning in January to continue Christin’s education and introduce her to more of the people we work with.
Office Space converted to Fire Department Dorm
Facilities By Design recently worked with the Marin County Fire Department to create a dorm suite to accommodate up to 30 fire personnel. As the County has faced many fire warnings over the past years, this space becomes very active on occasions when the County is under a red flag warning holding extra personnel overnight. FBD has helped to create a comfortable home away from home to house these overnight firefighters and provide them with a place to sleep, work, eat, and gather while not actively fighting fires.
Sonoma County Libraries get a Renovation
In 2016, voters passed a sales tax measure that provided the Sonoma County Library with funding for additional staff, supplies, and upgrades. An increase in staffing, training, and technology led to a need for additional space.
Medtronic’s old break area becomes a Café Lounge
Paula and her team were called on to transform an under-utilized employee break area into a “café space,” making it more inviting for both breaks and meetings. Overall functional space was increased from 230 sqft to 500 sqft. in just a few months.
Napa County’s move to South Campus
Working in conjunction with TLCD Architecture, Facilities by Design coordinated the move and space planning for the County of Napa’s massive move of roughly 440 county employees to their new South Campus multi-building complex.
NeoCON 2016 in Chicago
Ashley, Kelly and I travelled to Chicago for NeoCon, a three-day event attended by roughly 40,000 design professionals. Vendors showed off their newest creations in floor coverings, furniture, lighting, technology, textiles, wallcoverings and much more.
Eames Family Home Tour – Summer 2015
Facilities By Design was honored to receive an invite to this special event hosted by Luisa Demetruis. Luisa is the granddaughter of Charles and Ray Eames and lead this final tour through her grandparents home and workspace. Eames furniture is a classic example of mid-century design that is a basis for many current contract furniture styles to this day. Ashley and I were inspired to spend the day learning about the history and art of such a valuable contemporary in the field. In addition we enjoyed a thought provoking conversation with other design professionals from the South bay and San Francisco. The family is selling the property and moving the archives to their southern California facility and the National archives in Washington DC.

Previous Next Medtronic called us in to remodel a previously under-utilized area into a “café space,” making it more inviting for both breaks and meetings.
